New Trials – Fall 2017

We are currently recruiting participants for a new clinical research study of an investigational drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in patients with obesity. The study will examine the effect of the research drug on both A1C and weight loss over a 2-year period. We are looking for individuals who are currently taking metformin for the treatment of their diabetes.

Studies provide an opportunity for lifestyle education and support, commitment, and an opportunity to try a new therapy—all at no cost. Assignment to research drug will be blinded and randomized, meaning you may receive placebo, but will still receive dietary and behavioral support for management of your diabetes and weight loss. Patients participating in research studies are carefully monitored medically. After qualifying, patient-subjects enrolled will have regular monitoring visits (on site and/or phone visits), laboratory evaluations, EKGs and physical examinations at no expense. Clinical information can be made available to you. All protocols have been reviewed for subject safety and approved by an Institutional Review Board.

If you believe you, a family member or friend may be interested in learning about this trial and potentially participating, please contact our office (703-807-0037) or visit our website (www.wtmgmt.com). If you have any questions about clinical trial participation, please give us a call. We can also send you the informed consent for you to review. Our office is located at 2800 S. Shirlington Road, Suite 505, Arlington, VA 22206. There is free parking available.

Clinical Research

We design, implement and evaluate weight management/obesity protocols with the goal of increased understanding of obesity as a disease and its related co-morbid conditions. Our research strengthens the clinical work we do. As obesity experts we gain additional experience with medications before they become available and maintain an ongoing connection with scientists in the field.

We typically conduct several clinical trials a year examining the effects of different drugs on weight loss, and on improving metabolic conditions. We continuously recruit for people interested in participating in clinical research studies. Many of the trials include a lifestyle intervention including dietary and behavioral support.

Each research study has different requirements and obligations. Intervention intensity varies with each protocol. All drug trials are placebo controlled. We would be happy to discuss current studies for which you might be eligible. There is no cost for participation in research trials.
